Best Old Town Albuquerque Restaurants

Restaurant Antiquity: This restaurant in Albuquerque is our top pick for a special occasion. It offers fine dining in an intimate, romantic atmosphere, with extraordinary food and impeccable service. Cocktail or business casual attire is recommended, and reservations are recommended on any day of the week. From scallops in a jalapeno-citrus cream sauce and shrimp marinated in red chile and beer, then grilled to perfection, to veal scallopini and coconut-crusted rack of lamb, we hope you bring your appetite.

High Noon: This Albuquerque restaurant’s building dates from the 1860s, with brick floors, whitewashed walls, and vigas. High Noon offers an eclectic dinner menu featuring steaks, wild game, seafood, pasta, and New Mexican specialties. The New Mexican combination plate is an excellent sampler of regional favorites, and they offer many flavors of fabulous margaritas. Reservations are recommended on weekends and holidays.

Seasons Rotisserie & Grill: Modern American and European cuisine with an Italian influence. Wood-fired rotisserie and grill with a full-service bar. This Old Town restaurant offers excellent food and wonderful ambiance. The lounge on the second floor provides a great view of the sunset, with outdoor dining from late spring through early fall. The mango margarita is to die for! Casual to dressy attire, and reservations are recommended.

Old Town Cafe: Casual fare in a historic building right on the Plaza. Sandwiches, Frito Pie, burrito bowls, and lovely drinks are waiting!

Walkable Albuquerque Restaurants Near Old Town

Sawmill Market: Visit this upscale indoor food hall in a remodeled lumber warehouse. You can choose from a number of food vendors, so everyone gets what they want. It has lots of outdoor seating, features a casual vibe, and is open daily.

Lescombes Winery & Bistro: This café and wine-tasting room is just north of Old Town, and offers great comfort food, many cooked with wine. Other menu items are available at this restaurant in Albuquerque, but we can never get past the garlic chicken with mashed potatoes or the pot roast with Burgundy. Sample wines from Lescombes Winery as well as other New Mexico wineries, or enjoy lunch or dinner inside or out on the patio. They frequently have live music on weekend evenings in the summer. Open for lunch and dinner; call for reservations.

Duran’s Central Pharmacy: Just southeast of Old Town is another of our favorite restaurants in Albuquerque. Duran’s Central Pharmacy is where the locals go for lunch. The pharmacy with the diner in the back has been there for more than 60 years, and some of the waitresses have been there what seems like forever. Watch them make the best tortillas in town. Every dish here is wonderful, although some may be a little warm for visiting gringos. Linoleum floors, chrome tables and chairs, complete with a lunch counter, and all absolutely spotless. Tip: for lunch, either go before 11:30 or wait until after 1:15, or you’ll be waiting a while for a seat. Yes, it’s that good.

Vinaigrette: Vinaigrette features about 20 different fresh, made-to-order salads, as well as soups and sandwiches, making it one of the best places to eat in Albuquerque for a healthy bite when you’ve overindulged on vacation. Most of the produce is locally grown on farms owned by the restaurant’s owner. We recommend Vinaigrette for those with food allergies or dietary restrictions. The menu has many choices, so it’s easy to pick and choose. Enjoy patio dining on either the east or west side of the restaurant. Vinaigrette is located right on Central Avenue — historic Route 66. Casual attire and reservations recommended.

Cheese and Coffee and Seared: These two restaurants occupy the same space! Cheese and Coffee is the perfect Albuquerque restaurant for lunch, featuring classic soups, sandwiches, and salads. After it closes for lunch, the restaurant transitions to Seared for dinner. One of our personal favorites is the French cut pork chop, a “slow-braised frenched chop served with potatoes au gratin, fennel apple salad, grain mustard sauce.” White tablecloths and attentive service make this one of the most delightful restaurants in Albuquerque, and all with reasonable prices. Business casual attire, and reservations are recommended for dinner.

It was Wonderful!

These folks are causing me to break with tradition. I rarely give five stars. But I have to here. My wife stayed a night at the Bottger to celebrate here birthday. And it was just wonderful. Everything a bed and breakfast should be. And we’ve stayed at a bunch.

First the ‘bed’ part. Bottger is a delightful updated old mansion. They’ve done a marvelous job restoring the place. Our room was quite nice. A surprise was that there were numerous outlets. Rare in older properties. The whole house was updated, well maintained and clean.

And the breakfast? Superb. The allure of a bed and breakfast is that it has a creative, scrumptious breakfast of the sort you’d never make for yourself. All too many BnBs have a run-of-the-mill breakfast. Not the Bottger. We delighted in their modified French toast, green chile sausage and mimosa. It was all terrific.
